These days IT teams have their hands full with a number of difficult challenges that need to be addressed. They include everything from retiring legacy systems to coming up with ways to do much more with less.
Considering all the various priorities, it’s vital for them to concentrate on those initiatives that will have the greatest impact on their companies and at the same time provide business partners greater opportunities for success.
(1) Relevance
Too many IT teams are lagging behind on business processes driven by IT. IT personnel need to be more active in understanding those organizations they’re working for and aligned with their business. That way, they can help leverage technology in ways that can provide important advantages.
(2) Control
As more technologies are implemented and more data is distributed in and out of the cloud, IT teams no matter the size, will need to have a hybrid cloud computing strategy in place but most don’t have the tools and practices committed to be successful.
If data needed to drive processes for a business are not available IT won’t be the effective and competitive apparatus it can be.
(3) Agility
Too many IT teams are slow to respond to competing chall
enges and fail to take advantage of new opportunities. With the many technology options available, many users don’t have to wait. Those individual business units can contract with numerous competing cloud services and thus create more silos of data.
To stop the cycle, organizations will need to put in place agile processes covering all things from how applications are created to ways in which IT infrastructure is provisioned.
(4) Be Smarter
Unless it can be actionable, all the business smarts in the world won’t be worth much.
Companies have spent countless billions on legacy business intelligence applications that do very little to make things run more efficiently.
But now, data can be used more effectively and more powerfully overall with big data platforms and advanced computing services. But in order to take advantage, IT teams will need to be aggressive in urging that important investments in these initiatives do not lag.
(5) Mobile Matters
While many people believe smartphones and tablets are about providing access to email, they are really about creating and positioning applications and processes faster and closer to customers.
No matter if an application is for an employee or a customer, it is important that it has the ability to engage with the back-end enterprise services in a productive fashion.
Mobile is going to be one of the more important ways for businesses to connect with customers, however, in order to do so, things will need to change because many believe that mobile in the enterprise is muddled.
IT teams will need to make improvements in the application programming interface as well improve security concerns.
The challenges facing IT Teams are not just about being better at their jobs but about positioning their business in ways that make them more efficient and productive so they can not only survive but thrive moving forward.
