With the rate that modern technology is advancing and changing, the trends of today are obsolete by tomorrow. There’s a very short turnaround time on trends.
This phenomenon is not only present in just the science and technology sector as a whole but specifically so for information technology and data centers. The boom in data has lent itself to the development of newer and better data center trends to better and faster handle all the data coming in.
The four primary data center trends at play now are; network visualization, dynamic data centers, solid state, and expansion in network capacity.
Network Visualization
Network visualization is a growing and promising data center trend as it adds an intelligence factor into the network extracting from the physical hardware of the data center. It allows clients to maximize and direct traffic towards applications they have ranked as having greater significance at particular points in time.
This trend brings agility and ultimately enhanced profits by means of visualization and redirection of traffic based on the specific demand for a specific product.
Dynamic Data Centers
The Dynamic Data Center trend works the idea that having and an active data center is the optimal utilization of multiple data centers owned by a central firm all at once instead of as back ups for one another. As costs fall, maximizing the power of all the data centers is more and more a possibility for more and more organizations allowing them to make the most of data centers and cloud computing together to maximize profits.
Solid State
Another new and booming trend in data centers is the use of solid state. Solid state started our as a specific vehicle for applications that needed high performance. Again, as costs decrease, these states are being used in more areas as well as within data centers. Companies can now use these drives for about the same price as spinning discs as far as only a year ago. The key vendors in this space are EMC< Nimble, Pure Storage, and SolidFire.
Expansion in Network Capacity
As networking in 40GB and 100 GB have become the norm from 10GB from only a decade ago, it’s hard to imagine what could be next.
Overall, as todays data centers grow to keep up with the demands and expectations of today, there are several primary trends including network visualization, dynamic data centers, and expanding network capacities. While these are the trends of today we can only begin to imagine where the next levels of technology can and will bring us.
