- Engine Yard Buys Open Source Cloud Platform OpDemand. Engine Yard, a startup that offers a platform-as-a-service (PaaS) which cloud developers can use to build and run apps, acquired OpDemand, a startup that created open-source PaaS tool Deis. According to OpDemand CTO and Deis creator Gabriel Monroy, “By joining forces with Engine Yard, Deis will continue to flourish as an open source project and community. As Engine Yard helps the project to evolve, Deis will remain the best way to deploy and manage distributed applications in production.” (Venture Beat – April 14th)
- General Dynamics Sells Fidelis Cybersecurity Unit to Marlin Equity. Aerospace and defense company General Dynamics is selling its Fidelis security unit to private equity firm Marlin Equity Partners. Based in Waltham, MA, Fidelis is currently part of the mission systems division of General Dynamics, and offers data protection services from network security and cyber threat intelligence, to data breach investigation and response. Marlin has a diversified portfolio comprised of technology, healthcare, consumer services, and manufacturing companies. (DatacenterDynamics – April 16th)
- Danish Incumbent Telco TDC Considers Sale of IT Business Unit. TDC has launched a strategic review of its IT business TDC Hosting that could result in a sale of the division. The unit provides businesses with cloud-based IT services, Web hosting, cyber security, and hosted applications and services including email and Microsoft Office. It employs around 300 staff and in 2014 generated revenue of €66.9 million. “TDC is conducting a strategic review of TDC Hosting,” said TDC, in a statement. “The strategic review may or may not lead to a sale of TDC Hosting.” (Total Telecom – April 14th)
- Canada’s IT Weapons Acquires Brampton-Based Collins IT Services. IT Weapons announced the acquisition of solution provider Collins IT Services. Specializing in desktop management and user support for small businesses, the Collins IT team represents an important and strategic addition to the IT Weapons portfolio of technology infrastructure skills. Founder of Collins IT Services, Neal Collins, shared his excitement, “I couldn’t be more thrilled. - TSG Completes Acquisition of UK Technology Specialist Aegis IT. Technology Services Group (TSG) has bolstered its technical offering by acquiring the trade and assets of Aegis IT. With expertise across cloud, infrastructure and applications, TSG is an ISO 9001 accredited IT solutions company headquartered in Newcastle with 400 employees in offices around the UK. TSG holds six Microsoft Gold competencies and continues to make significant investment in the development of its own managed IT services solution, SystemCare. (TSG – April 13th)
- GoDaddy Acquires Marketplace Startup Elto to Expand its Services for Web Professionals. GoDaddy is continuing to expand its resources for small business owners with the acquisition of Elto, a startup which had been offering a marketplace that helped connect business owners and other non-technical people to web developers who could help them establish and improve their web presence. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Elto had previously raised under a million in angel and seed funding from the founders of 99Designs and Australian fund Blackbird Ventures. - Nuspire Networks Announces Acquisition of Security Confidence. Nuspire Networks announced the acquisition of Security Confidence, an award winning MSSP with highly technical and skilled engineers, programmers and security analysts focused on providing managed IT security and disaster recovery solutions. The acquisition is an important step in Nuspire’s continued efforts to serve as the managed security services provider (MSSP) of choice for large, Fortune 500 companies with a dispersed footprint and complex compliance environments. - Virtusa Expands Infrastructure Management Services with Acquisition of Apparatus. Global IT services company Virtusa announced that it acquired Apparatus, an Indianapolis headquartered provider of end-to-end IT infrastructure services. The transaction is valued at in excess of $34 million. With over 200 employees, Apparatus provides consulting, service design, and delivery of infrastructure management services, helping its clients improve the operational efficiencies of their IT investments. - Node4 Acquires Open Source Technology Services Company Reconnix. Node4, the Cloud and Data Center specialist, completed a strategic acquisition of Reconnix, an open source technology services company specializing in application development and fully managed cloud and dedicated hosting solutions. The acquisition will strengthen Node4’s existing portfolio of cloud solutions and allow it to further develop its Platform-as-a-Service offering so that customers can develop, run and manage web applications to meet their business needs. (Node4 – March 30th)
- Redcentric Acquires Calyx Managed Service Division. UK- based Calyx Managed Services was snapped up by fellow managed services firm Redcentric just over a week after it offloaded other units of its business to Chess and Daisy. In a London Stock Exchange announcement, Redcentric said it conditionally acquired the firm from its private-equity backer MXC Capital for £12 million. Closing of the transaction is expected on April 13th on the condition of the successful disposal of certain other business units, which were recently announced. (CRN – April 2nd)
- M/C Partners Acquires Majority Equity Interest in Denovo. Denovo, a leading provider of ERP cloud hosting, consulting and managed services, announced that M/C Partners, a private equity firm based in Boston, has invested in and acquired a majority interest in Denovo. The financing will enable Denovo to make acquisitions and invest in the development of its cloud and managed services offerings while providing liquidity for its founders. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed in the announcement. (M/C Partners – April 1st)
- Orange Acquires the Totality of Cloudwatt. Orange agreed to acquire the outstanding shares of French hosting company Cloudwatt held by Thales (22.2%) and Caisse des Dépôts (33.3%), which acts on its own behalf and on that of the State in the “Investment for the Future” program, and will integrate all of Cloudwatt’s employees. The technologies and services offered by Cloudwatt complement Orange’s own portfolio and represent an opportunity to accelerate the deployment of a sovereign public cloud both in France and in Europe. - Global Data Systems to Acquire MidSouth Technologies. Global Data Systems entered into a definitive agreement to acquire MidSouth Technologies, a leading provider of security, technology and communications to the maritime, energy and transportation markets. Founded in 2003 with offices in Lockport, Louisiana, MidSouth Technologies serves 1,200+ customers in 14 countries. Global Data Systems is a provider of telecommunications, technology, security, networking, infrastructure and datacenter solutions. (datacentres.com – March 26th)
- j2 Global Acquires Online Backup, Sync, and Share Assets of SugarSync. j2 Global announced the acquisition of the online file backup, synchronization, and sharing assets of SugarSync in a transaction that drives j2’s cloud backup revenue to more than $70 million annual run-rate. “This acquisition reflects our ongoing efforts to expand and grow our cloud backup business on a global basis, both organically and through acquisitions,” said j2’s CEO, Hemi Zucker. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed and the financial impact to j2 is not expected to be material. (j2 Global – March 24th)
- NCC Group Agrees to Acquire UK-Based IT Security Specialist Accumuli. NCC Group entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Accumuli in a transaction that values the company at approximately £55 million. Accumuli is a rapidly growing, UK-based independent specialist in IT security and risk management. The company provides industry leading solutions and services underpinned by strong skills and capabilities with the objective of enabling organizations to manage the ever increasing IT risk landscape and leverage their IT assets for business value. - TeraGo Enhances Data Center & Hosting Capabilities with RackForce Acquisition. TeraGo, a Canadian national provider of complete end-to-end data solutions, announced a definitive agreement to acquire RackForce Networks, an enterprise-class provider of network, data, voice and cloud services, for aggregate cash consideration of $31.0 million and $2.0 million of common shares of TeraGo. The aggregate purchase price of $33.0 million represents a multiple of approximately 9.9x adjusted EBITDA annualized for the three months ended December 31st. (TeraGo – March 19th)
- PCM to Acquire Assets of En Pointe Technologies Sales. PCM entered into an agreement to acquire the assets of En Pointe Technologies Sales’ IT solutions provider business. Under the terms of the agreement, PCM will pay an initial purchase price of $15 million in cash and certain contingent earn-out consideration over a three year period. En Pointe will be acquired by an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of PCM, which subsidiary will operate under the En Pointe brand following the closing. (PCM – March 16th)
- Open-Xchange Merges with Dovecot to Create Open Source Email Powerhouse. Open-Xchange announced last Thursday that it has completed a merger with email server software provider Dovecot OY. Under the terms of the merger, Dovecot will become a subsidiary of Open-Xchange. With a 57% market share of all active IMAP servers, Dovecot brings additional open source expertise to Open-Xchange. OX has already sold 130 million seats of OX App Suite, its cloud productivity suite that competes with Google and Microsoft. (The WHIR – March 19th)
- F12 Networks Closes Merger with Insite Computer Group. F12 Networks and Insite Computer Group announced the completion of their merger, positioning the combined company as a leader in Managed IT Solutions with national reach. The two companies will combine key products such as Insite’s ThinDesk Cloud infrastructure along with F12’s Hardware as a Service program and its groundbreaking F12 Connect support system. F12 and Insite have been recipients of several industry awards and accolades such as CDN’s top 100 Solution Providers. (PR Newswire – March 16th)
- Lightower Acquires ColocationZone, Enterprise-Class Data Center in Chicago. Lightower Fiber Networks acquired ColocationZone, an enterprise-class data center provider in Chicago. ColocationZone is located in the 725 South Wells data center in downtown Chicago, on the South Loop of the city’s Central Business District. The data center offers approximately 6,500 sq. ft. of enterprise-class data center space offering scalable leases of cages and cabinets. Lightower will also be taking over operations of the Meet-Me-Room for the entire 725 South Wells facility. (Lightower – March 11th)
- Videotron Acquires 4Degrees Colocation for C$31.5 Million. Videotron announced the acquisition of 4Degrees Colocation in Québec City for C$31.5 million, which could increase to C$35.5 million if certain targets are reached. 4Degrees is one of the few data centers in Québec to be Tier III certified by the Uptime Institute. The 4Degrees data center is a secure facility equipped with a high-availability backup system. It has a total capacity of more than 2,000 cabinets and the equivalent of 85,000 servers. - TelecityGroup and Interxion Reach Definitive Agreement on All-Share Merger. TelecityGroup and Interxion announced that they entered into a definitive agreement on an all-share merger on the same terms as announced on February 11th. The transaction will be structured as an offer by TelecityGroup to acquire all the issued and to be issued share capital of Interxion. As a result, TelecityGroup shareholders will own approximately 55%, and Interxion shareholders approximately 45%, of the combined group. The primary listing for the combined group will be on the London Stock Exchange. (Interxion – March 9th)
- Docker Buys Kitematic, Which Simplifies Docker on Mac. Docker announced the acquisition of Kitematic, which makes it possible for the Mac world to run, build, and ship Docker containers, something its current product wasn’t capable of doing. Because Mac computers lack the features to run Docker natively, the alternative has been to follow a guide and spend 30 minutes to an hour configuring it to work. This new product reduces time down to minutes and increases ease of use because it does all the setup in an attractive user interface. (Data Center Knowledge – March 12th)
- SingleHop Acquires Microsoft Hosting Specialist Server Intellect. SingleHop announced the acquisition of Server Intellect, a leading provider of Microsoft managed hosting solutions. The acquisition will enable SingleHop to deploy private clouds powered by both leading hypervisor platforms used by enterprises today. The acquisition reinforces SingleHop’s strategy to offer comprehensive dedicated and virtual private cloud hosting solutions that deliver the advanced automation, speed-to-market, robust security and proven cost-efficiency that enterprises require. - MAXIMUS Signs Definitive Agreement to Acquire Acentia for $300 Million. MAXIMUS agreed to acquire Acentia, a provider of technology and management solutions to federal government civilian and health agencies. The acquisition expands the company’s U.S. federal services business through additional contract vehicles and access to federal government agencies that are core to the MAXIMUS business model. The acquisition is expected to close during the company’s fiscal 2015 third quarter and is subject to certain closing conditions. (MAXIMUS – March 9th)
- NTT to Acquire European Data Center Company e-shelter. NTT Communications agreed to acquire an 86.7% stake in e-shelter in a transaction that will vault the Japanese company into the number 3 position for data center space in Europe. The ABRY Partners and Investa Holdings portfolio company has nearly 90,000 square meters of data center space in four major cities in Germany as well as Zurich, Switzerland and Vienna, Austria. Details of the e-shelter deal were not announced, but Reuters reported a transaction value of ¥100 billion equal to approximately $836 million. (NTT – March 3rd)
- HP to Buy Wi-Fi Equipment Maker Aruba Networks for $3 Billion. Hewlett-Packard agreed to buy Aruba Networks, a maker of Wi-Fi access equipment for businesses, for about $3 billion in HP’s biggest deal in more than three years. The deal would also be the first major transaction by the technology company since it announced plans to split itself in two last year. Buying Aruba would bolster HP’s networking business as smartphones, tablets and other connected devices continue to proliferate. (New York Times – March 2nd)
- Mitel Announces Definitive Agreement to Acquire Mavenir. Mitel announced a definitive agreement to acquire Mavenir Systems in a cash and stock deal valued at approximately $560 million. The transaction will expanded Mitel’s unified communications capabilities into the mobile world with Mavenir’s 4G LTE mobile solutions with an established base of over 130 mobile customers including 15 of the top 20 mobile carriers worldwide. The $560 million transaction value is equal to approximately 4.2x Mavenir’s 4Q14 annualized revenue of $134.8 million. (Mitel – March 2nd)
- TelecityGroup and Interxion Provide Update on Non-Binding Merger Agreement. TelecityGroup and Interxion announced that discussions relating to their proposed merger remain ongoing and the companies continue to make good progress towards completing mutual due diligence and finalizing definitive transaction documentation reflecting the agreed transaction terms as announced on February 11th. In connection with this announcement, TelecityGroup and Interxion have agreed to extend their agreement not to solicit or discuss alternative proposals until after March 9th. (Interxion – March 3rd)
- Cloud Equity Group Acquires Fresh Roasted Hosting. Cloud Equity Group, an investment management company focused on opportunistic acquisitions of web service providers, announced the acquisition of Fresh Roasted Hosting, a leading provider of premium web services based in Harrisburg, PA. Fresh Roasted Hosting was founded in 2011 as a premium service provider offering high-end hosting solutions to both individuals and small businesses located primarily in Central Pennsylvania. - Western Digital Announces Definitive Agreement to Acquire Amplidata. Western Digital’s subsidiary HGST agreed to acquire Amplidata, a privately-held developer of object storage software for public and private cloud data centers. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The acquisition supports the company’s strategy to expand into higher value data storage platforms and systems that deliver breakthrough value and scalability to address the massive growth in storage requirements in cloud data centers. - Akamai Technologies Acquires Xerocole. Akamai acquired Xerocole, a provider of recursive Domain Name System (DNS) functionality, in a cash transaction. The acquisition is expected to allow Akamai to expand its DNS product portfolio beyond the company’s existing Authoritative DNS products to more completely meet the needs of customers and network partners. Xerocole, a private company with ten employees, was established in 2010. The acquisition is not material to Akamai’s financials. (Akamai – March 2nd)
- Box Acquires Startup Subspace for BYOD Security in First Post-IPO Acquisition. Cloud storage provider Box, fresh off its wildly successful $175 million IPO, has acquired Subspace, a seven-person Berkeley, CA startup specializing in BYOD security for mobile devices in corporate settings. Neither company disclosed terms of the deal. Subspace, which began operations in December, 2013, is funded by its founders Jon Fan, Ben Kus and Peter Loer, all three of whom will join Box, in addition to the company’s other employees. - Computer Integrated Services Merging with brightstack Technologies. Computer Integrated Services and brightstack Technologies announced that they are merging their organizations in order to leverage the strengths and capabilities of both companies and expand their market and geographic reach. Both organizations are based in Manhattan, but have served different market segments. brightstack, a technology solutions provider founded in 2004, offers managed services/help desk, unified communication/voice and video systems and IT infrastructure solutions. CIS is a national systems integrator focused primarily on IT infrastructure solutions. (PRWeb – March 3rd)
- Arrow Electronics Signs Definitive Agreement to Acquire immixGroup. Arrow Electronics agreed to acquire immixGroup, a value-added distributor supporting over 800 value-added resellers, solution providers, service providers, and other public sector channel partners with specialized resources to accelerate their government sales. “immixGroup shares our strategic focus on solution selling into the higher value segments of the data center and will bring us an expanded presence in the public sector market,” said Michael Long, Chairman, President and CEO of Arrow. - Proofpoint Signs Definitive Agreement to Acquire Emerging Threats. Proofpoint, a leading next-generation security and compliance company, agreed to acquire Emerging Threats, a leading provider of advanced threat intelligence, for approximately $40 million in cash and stock. Proofpoint will integrate Emerging Threats’ advanced threat intelligence with its existing Targeted Attack Protection and Threat Response security solutions to deliver another significant step forward in advancing the state of the art for advanced threat detection and response. - SPS Acquires IT Solutions Provider ExtraTeam. Strategic Products and Services (SPS), a systems integrator and managed service provider, announced the acquisition of ExtraTeam. Headquartered in Pleasanton, California, ExtraTeam is an IT solution provider with competencies across a wide range of technologies. With expertise in networking and data centers, unified communications, collaboration, video, cloud and managed services, ExtraTeam partners with clients to optimize, enhance and extend technology solutions and improve business outcomes.
